JEWLZ BAILEY

Julia (Jewlz) Bailey was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. The daughter of a visual artist, art teacher and architect mother and a business savvy father, Julia’s creative flare and spirited ambition was evident from a young age. She proved to be a talented artist in various capacities and- at the age of 12- was offered a spot at a competitive arts school. Julia studied extra-curricular theatre and drama throughout junior high and high school and went on to study improvisational comedy at the prestigious Second City in Toronto. Discovering a natural eye for the lens, Julia also dabbled in photography during this time.

While transitioning from high school to university, Julia was offered a job modeling in an add campaign for popular Canadian design house Club Monaco, where she was featured on posters in stores across the country, in addition to a national TV commercial. Julia’s natural, innocent beauty quickly caught the eye of prestigious Toronto modeling agencies and before long she signed with super-agent Elmer Olsen at Elite Model Management. Julia has graced the runways of several Toronto Fashion Week shows, including Misura, Flare, and Erin Reid, and has been featured in nationwide campaigns for department stores The Bay and Sears.

While completing her Bachelors of Arts degree at the University of Toronto, Julia took an interest in her film studies courses and joined the Hart House Film Board, where she could sign out professional video cameras and experiment with cinematic media. In early 2005, Julia received her first small film grant from Hart House to produce a low budget music video for a fellow student recording artist. The success of that experience inspired Julia to sign up for an intense summer filmmaking program at the University of Southern California’s world-renowned School of Television and Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, where she would discover yet another new potential.

Julia has since produced, directed and edited over 10 music videos for artists in both Canada and the US, including platinum west coast rapper Yukmouth (of the Luniz) and Gold rapper Gonzoe (of Ice Cube’s protégé group Kausion). In 2006, Julia produced a short behind-the-scenes documentary and DVD to accompany Gonzoe’s record “Hard Dayz Long Nightz,” which was released with international distribution. In 2007, Julia showed her music video “Pacc Thangz” at the U of T Film Festival and a year later, produced an upbeat dance video for up-and-coming R&B singing sensation Nirvana Savoury. In early 2009, Julia had the opportunity to produce a video for Toronto’s own Juno-nominated group, Point Blank, with the help of a generous grant award from FACTOR (the Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent on Recording). Recently, Julia worked with Point Blank member Stump Gets producing and directing his solo video debut, and is now expanding her horizons adding a diverse portfolio of video genres to her roster, including fashion stories, sports and technology, cooking and health, and life-coaching webinars.

Among these impressive credentials, Julia can also add motherhood. She is the mother to four-year-old Chase, who is already demonstrating his own talent for the arts. She attributes her ability to balance a full workload and motherhood to her relentless drive- and she isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
